FAQ

The Experience & Preparation

The “Why” and the “How to prepare”

Why Mongolia

Mongolia is not simply a place we chose — it is a land we have come to know through years of exploration.

We have travelled more than 4,000 km across Mongolia by bicycle, crossing the endless steppe, the Gobi Desert, and parts of the country in the depths of winter. We also feel deeply connected to this land; it is where Fibie took her first steps, in a Mongolian ger.

In the immensity of Mongolia, we found a rare space to slow down, to feel and to listen deeply. Here, nature is not simply a backdrop, but a powerful presence that invites us to reconnect with ourselves and with what really matters.

This is why we chose Mongolia: not simply because it is wild and beautiful, but because we have lived it, explored it, and found places here where we can share a different rhythm of life.

Where will this journey unfold?

The exact location will be selected closer to the departure date, depending on conditions and the best place for the experience. It will be somewhere in the Mongolian steppe, generally 2–6 hours from Ulaanbaatar

Do I need any prior experience?

No. All practices are beginner-friendly and can be adapted to your comfort level.

What is the physical difficulty level?

The retreat is designed to be gentle and accessible for all. The activities are easy, focusing on slow movement, mindful walking, and deep relaxation rather than physical exertion. You do not need to be an athlete to participate; the pace is set by the group’s comfort, allowing everyone to connect with the land without strain.

What is the weather like?

Summer days can be warm and sunny, while nights are often cool. Weather in the steppe can change quickly, with strong winds, rain and occasional storms. Come prepared for changing conditions and bring layers and waterproof clothing.

What should I pack?

Comfortable outdoor clothing, warm layers for cool evenings, a good sleeping bag (comfort rating around 0°C), hiking shoes, swimwear for the sauna, and a sense of adventure.

How many participants join each Experience?

To maintain a personal atmosphere, groups are limited to 8 participants.

How can we communicate

French and English will be the main languages during the experience. We will also have a Japanese interpreter to help with communication when needed.

A session may be made up mostly of guests from one country, or it may be a multicultural group. Either way, don’t worry — communication won’t be a problem. We are used to communicating across languages and cultures, and we want everyone to feel comfortable, included and able to enjoy the experience.

The Unpredictability of the Mongolian Steppe

Mongolia is not a place we can control. The wind may rise, a storm may arrive, the temperature may change, and plans may have to shift. Connecting with the land also means accepting its wildness and unpredictability.

After years of living Outdoors, we have learned to adapt, listen and find our way within the elements rather than trying to overcome them. This is something we will share with you.

So expect moments of stillness and deep connection — but also moments of adventure, unpredictability and the unexpected. Sometimes, Mongolia will decide what happens next.

Special Medical Conditions & Remote Reality

Focus on “Self-Sufficiency” and “Honesty.”

Because we are immersed in the remote steppe, medical facilities are not immediately accessible. The nearest major hospital is more than two hours away by vehicle, and specialized care may require evacuation to Ulaanbaatar or abroad.

Your Responsibility: Please consult your doctor before booking. You must bring a sufficient supply of all personal medications for the duration of the trip plus extra days.

Life on the Land (Accommodation, Food & Wellness)

Daily life, comfort, and practices

What type of accommodation is provided?

Guests stay in spacious canvas tents (Sibley-style tents or similar), equipped with comfortable camping beds, with 2–3 guests per tent. Smaller individual tents may also be available for guests who prefer to sleep alone (limited induvidual tent)

Depending on the location of the camp, traditional Mongolian yurts (gers), equipped with Mongolian-style beds, may be used instead.

Can dietary requirements be accommodated?

Yes. Please let us know your dietary requirements when registering. As we will be travelling in remote areas of Mongolia, options may be more limited than at home, but we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Is the sauna experience suitable for beginners?

Yes. The wood-fired sauna is guided and entirely optional. We adapt the experience to each participant.

Is Mongolia safe?

Yes. Mongolia is generally considered a safe destination, and our experiences are carefully organized with the support of experienced local guides and partners. We take the necessary precautions while allowing you to experience the country in an authentic and adventurous way.

How can we wash ourselves?

In keeping with the spirit of the journey, we keep things simple. A warm (or cold) water and a washcloth. It is a simple and surprisingly refreshing way to stay clean while living close to nature.

Once during the journey, we’ll enjoy a guided wood-fired sauna in the heart of nature. The experience is entirely optional and adapted to each participant — a simple way to unwind, warm up and reconnect with the elements.

What are the bathroom facilities like?

The bathroom is outdoors, in the simple style commonly used in Mongolia.

Depending on the location, it will either be a small wooden shelter without a roof, with a Japanese-style squat toilet and a large hole in the ground, or a simple camping toilet enclosed by a tent sheet.

It is a simple and natural setup, appropriate to the surroundings and the experience of living close to nature.

Why don't you do this experience by bicycle?

Yes, cycling is a big part of our life — and has been for many years. But this time, we wanted to step off the bikes and share another side of our nomadic life.

The experience is less about moving from one place to another and more about being in one place, slowing down, and experiencing the everyday life that happens around the journey: living outdoors, doing yoga, meditation, sharing, watching the weather change, and simply having time to connect with nature and with each other.

The bicycle is an important part of our story, but life on the road is about much more than the bicycle. This experience is an invitation to discover that side of our world.

Can I extend my stay in Mongolia beyond the 5-day program?

Yes, absolutely. We would be happy to organize additional activities and excursions to extend your immersion, but we won’t be with you. We can organize a guide and transportation for you.

Alternatively, if you prefer to explore at your own pace, you are free to continue your travels independently after our time together.

Practicalities, Visa & Booking

Logistics, money, and rules

If we do not reach the minimum number of participants, the retreat may be cancelled. In this case, you will receive a 100% full refund.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical evacuation, medical expenses, and personal belongings.

Can I transfer my booking to someone else?

Yes. Up to 14 days before departure, you may transfer your reservation to another person, subject to approval and administrative processing.

I am traveling alone; is there a single supplement or shared option?

There is no single supplement, as our experience is designed to foster community and shared connection.

Traveling alone is absolutely fine. Guests normally share a tent with 1–2 other participants, but a smaller individual tent may be available for those who prefer to sleep alone. Depending on the camp location, accommodation may instead be provided in a traditional Mongolian yurt (ger).
